But, since Medicare starts the first day of the month of one's birthday, was I officially a senior on the first?
I don't feel older than yesterday, though.

(20,568 posts)You are a senior citizen the first day you start reading about Medicare online and in their big book. I advise people to get started on that one year before they are eligible. On your birthday, you just hope you have it all figured out. Celebrate!!

(64,877 posts)Our insurance guy is great.
He texted me in March that he'd pull together options then call me in June. He did exactly that.
By the 2nd week of June, everything was in place.
We even had it set up so that at 11:59:59pm on August 31, my personal healthcare policy would expire.
There was literally 1 second between policies!
So, on September 1, I wasn't sweating a thing.
That guy is so attentive & helpful.

(23,325 posts)I don't mind boomer, geezer, old fart, grey hair, gramps.
But "elderly"? I hate the implication of frailty, no matter how close to the truth.
Now, let's discuss ailments ...

I am old, but somehow don't feel "elderly."

I didn't really celebrate. I only care about prime number bdays.
I know, I know. Pretty geeky.

(64,877 posts)I can do the algebra, but feels like cheating.
And, in your example, it adds to 71. That's already a prime number!
But, for this year I suppose I could do 5^2 + 29 +11.
Too late though. Yesterday's gone. (Thanks to Lindsay Buckingham)

(113,089 posts)my friends are weird like that. (Do you think we need more hobbies?)
ProfessorGAC
(64,877 posts)But, there's numbers involved there, so not sure that counts.
I actually extract cube roots in my head when driving around. Or I determine yield on a randomly chosen rate of return over 10 - 30 years, picking 5 of those at random. (Me: "Let's do 7.27% over 11, 16, 21, 25 & 29 years.)
My wife thinks I'm nuts.

(113,089 posts)annoying puke politicians. . Hmm. They all involve numbers. Yeah, really need more hobbies.

(64,877 posts)I'm still hitting it 230, so I can still hit driver/5-8 iron on most par 4s.
When I regularly start needing a 5 wood on the second shot of a 4, I'll know it's time.
