Well, THAT was a freak accident, lol. I've lived with cats since before I was born. I have a pic of my hugely pregnant mom with our Tuxedo cat, Geraldine, draped across her belly. She said that Geraldine would purr to me, which explains my love of cats. I've experienced many things in my many years on this earth, but this is a first.
The cats have been geeked up since it's gotten cooler, and today was no exception. I did a partial aquarium water change, which excited Rosie. I then had a couple of boxes I wanted to break down to take to the recycle bin, so had them in the dining area next to the dining room table ready to take out. Rosie came barreling into the room, jumped on the table then launched herself into the air, planning to land on my shoulder, and that's when everything went wrong. It was all so fast that I don't know what exactly happened, but she ended up crashing into my face, jamming my glasses into the inner corner of my right eye, her back claws scratching my eyelid and forehead in the process. I was momentarily stunned, and so was she. Then the pain set in. Blood started dripping and my under eye area started throbbing. I went to a mirror and saw that my eye was bruising. I got a paper towel to mop up the blood, then grabbed a package of frozen spinach to put on my eye to reduce the swelling I was feeling.
My glasses are fine, and my eyesight wasn't affected, but I look like I went a couple of rounds with Mike Tyson. It hurts like hell and I think Rosie knows she did something to me because she's been a little (well, not so little--she's 12 pounds) cling-on ever since.
I don't think folks will believe me when I tell them that my cat gave me a black eye!

How can I get mad at a face like that?!?

I bet she feels terrible about this. That hurts, I never knew how much a black eye hurt until I got one, especially with the smack to your glasses into the corner of your eye. Wow, I bet is aches like mad!
She will comfort you. Sorry that had to happen.

(14,811 posts)I was laying on the couch watching tv & he came running up & said "Catch Daddy" & threw a tennis ball that hit me in my eye as I looked up. It hurt so bad I had to laugh. My eye kept watering all day so I finally called my doctor's office & they said come right in. It turned out I had a scratched cornea & had to wear an eyepatch & put drops in for a week. That little shit thought the eyepatch was the funniest thing in the world too.

(92 posts)You have my sympathy, empathy and telepathy. Or something like that.
Once, a long, long time ago, we had a semi-feral cat that walked into our lives and made himself at home. He was about half grown when he arrived and turned into a really large cat when he became full grown. His name was Casey. Which is a homophone for the initials, K.C. Which stood for Killer Cat. He came by his name honestly as he would kill small critters just for fun. He didnt want to eat most of them, so he fed them to our dog. Yuck.
Anyway, Casey used to like to drape himself around my neck when we were walking in the woods or just any time he wanted attention. One day he was lying on top of my tool box watching me bent over working on the engine of the bull dozer. Now the top of my tool box was almost six feet high and I was probably only about four feet high as I was bent over fairly far.
At this point Casey decided he wanted attention, so he jumped from the tool box to my shoulders and jammed my face into the engine. I didnt get any black eyes, but I did have various multi-colored bruises elsewhere on my face.
So, yes, I can understand injuries from a too loving cat. Take care of yourself. -B

(34,174 posts)I love the name Casey for Killer Cat. I had a rescue Tuxedo cat that somebody had dumped on the lawn of my vet's office. I named him Howie, which was short for Hell on Wheels, and he more than lived up to his name. I miss the little guy.
Welcome to DU!

(20,544 posts)She didn't intend on the face tackle so I bet she feels bad. And you are right - how could you be mad at a face like that - I sense concern on her part. When I get scratches etc. I just remember the times I accidently stepped on their feet.

(15,958 posts)I'm a sucker for cats with points (Siamese type markings). I don't care if it's Siamese, Balinese, Himalayan, or a mutt with some Siamese, etc., ancestry, I just go wild for that look. And she is a stunningly beautiful example!

(34,174 posts)Tom and Geraldine passed on. I did a DNA test on Rosie just for fun because I was curious about her lineage. She was adopted as a kitten from the local Humane Society by a very nice lady who had to go into assisted living unexpectedly, and it was either me or take her back to the Humane Society. What could I do? Anyway, the results were interesting. The three breeds she has the most DNA of were American Shorthair, Maine Coon, and, interestingly, Siberian.

(2,637 posts)And I know she didn't mean to do it on purpose! Mine just used my tummy as a trampoline at 4am the other morning. First time zoomies for this normally sedate, older cat, on top of it!
In fact, a friend and I have been talking about this very thing on my private FB account. Would you mind if I told her your story? I'm sure she love to hear it, too... we've been talking about nothing but cat zoomies all week! If not, I understand...
{{hugs}} and I hope the swelling goes down quickly... eye concealer works well for the black, blue, red, and yellow colorings of the bruising!

(34,174 posts)Nothing like a 20-pound cat bouncing off your stomach at 3 a.m. Otis is famous for that. By all means, share the story. I think all of us are enjoying the cooler weather.

(112,440 posts)soon. As for the bruising. . Do you have calendula (pot marigold)?. Your local herb shop should, or check the tea section of your supermarket. Make a decoction, and put a small cloth or cotton ball in it. Wring out a bit, hold it on the bruised part of your eye like a poultice. For most bruises, it is a soak, but obviously not with your eye.
Feel better soon.
