To think otherwise, means you believe that America is the Best place in the world to live. The way things have become, and will probably be for decades to come, makes me think there are better options out there.
I see bad things to come here.

(16,903 posts)my parents, grandparents on both sides and great grands have been on this island since the 1880s. I moved here in June of 2020, and am not missing the US at all.
I especially am grateful to enjoy DU and all of you every day.

(7,671 posts)I lived abroad (Mexico and Italy) for 12 years -- there's as much there as here, if not more.

(9,998 posts)Yeah, America is a better place to be than Mexico.
And Italy was an Axis member in WW II, so I would hardly hold them up as a place to move to either. They repeatedly elected Berlusconi.
Denmark, Finland, New Zealand, Australia, Netherlands, Canada. All far more liberal, less divided, and Less INSANE than America.

There are expat communities in many countries. A good resource for getting info about other countries is International Living.
I have friends who have lived on Bonaire for more than 25 years. A DUer moved from Philly to France a couple of years ago. I have a friend who moved to France more than 10 years ago and now holds a French passport.
Portugal is appealing to many people, as is Costa Rica.We have a DUer who moved there recently.
I toyed with the idea of moving abroad several years ago. Wanted to go live in France for a couple of months to see how it felt, but before I could arrange it, Covid happened. Now, I think at 70 it's too late for me to tackle it solo.
I'm very worried about this country. Too many stupid people and a totally broken system of government which allows for minority rule due to fundamental flaws that seem to be irreparable.
Good luck figuring it out

(31,374 posts)Ten years ago, I felt 10--well, maybe 7 or 8--years younger than my age. But the last 10 years I have more than caught up.
The decision to live in another country has so many personal components. People have to do what they feel is right for them. What is right for one person may not be right for another.
