Scam Alert: IRS letter 6470

I just picked up my mail & oh my a letter from the IRS?. Says our adjusted gross income was yada yada-way more than we actually claimed. And that they had previously sent a notice (Nope).

Best I can figure it is a scam a damn good one at that. They want you to send tax records etc...or call a 800# that doesn't match the real IRS #

Anyone have any input I'm just going by google searches. Scam according to multiple posts on Reddit for whatever that is worth. To be safe I'm calling the real IRS# to report it Monday.

I miscalculated my return and did not receive as large a refund as I claimed on the return. I assumed I had screwed up something with the stimulus. This is just a letter saying I can appeal. I am ignoring it.

The only way to stop these things is to report them. They should be able to trace the phone number.

Hopefully someone else getting this letter is not getting scammed already.

I give them to my CPA and let him deal with it. When I still ran my business, I did pay attention. Now my income stream is simplified and I give the statements to the CPA and let him figure stuff out. He lets me know when I need to write a check and gives me the forms to include with it.
