(1,289 posts)I miss the spectacular Hudson River views and the high quality pizza. I think the most scenic point on the Palisades Parkway is just north of the GW Bridge, across from the Harlem River, where you're looking across at both Manhattan & the Bronx. The ferries across the river from Edgewater & Hoboken are a fun way to get into the city and there are buses from the ferry terminals that drop you off all over Manhattan.

Live in the mountains now, probably because I still love them.

(14,888 posts)...you get a beautiful view of NJ and it's Palisades which is an old balsalt lava flow that plunges down towards
the Hudson River.
Lots geology buffs go to see, as well.
It's also very relaxing to sit there because a whole group of trees are planted there, along with benches to look out upon the river.
(just there today)

(63,221 posts)afternoon. It houses The Met's medieval and Renaissance art collection and parts of the building itself were moved there from European monastaries, abbeys and their cloistered courtyards to re-create an authentic experience. It's really a lovely place to visit if you ever get the opportunity.

(22,034 posts)There's a park in Ft. Lee, NJ just South of the bridge. I've walked there several times for picnics. The views from the bridge, both North and South of the Hudson River, are spectacular.

(14,888 posts)even if you're being driven across the GWB by car, or in a bus - it's lovely. 💖

(22,034 posts)It's the prettiest road for us to get to our house in the Catskills from NYC. (The bonus is that there isn't a toll from Manhattan to NJ!)
The views to the East, as we drive North, are beautiful and stunning and when you get to Harriman State Park, the forests are lovely.
Thanks for the photo, elleng!

(6,360 posts)Been a lot of years, but we used to walk our dog along the palisades. We were often the only ones there and it was just a little slice of heaven.
Quite a place to walk a dog!

(21,755 posts)We used to hang out a lot around what we called the Women's Castle... The real name is the Women's Federation Monument... The history is very interesting:
A bit south of the Castle, maybe 3/4-1 mile... If you stay close to the cliffs you can find a very cool spot that has about a 2 foot jump onto a disc that sits out from the cliffs. You not only have an amazing view back in but someone carved what appears to be a little seat you can use to look out onto the NY skyline.
