This footage showing everyday life in New York City in 1911 was produced by the Swedish company Svenska Biografteatern and released public by the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). It was colorized using DeOldify

And I always think of my grandmother who was present back then, she was young, but she must have seen scenes just like this - and then she grew up, learned how to drive modern cars and flew on planes all over the world. She saw so many amazing changes and kept up with them, but remembered what it used to be like.

And when I see these people in the streets, I always wonder how them manage to keep from getting run over! And everyone wears hats, men women and kids - how much times have changed - and yet they were leading ordinary lives just like those of us today.

I'm not surprised that no tenements were filmed.

What was propelling the streetcars? I don't see electric wires, nor smoke from an engine.

A fascinating look back.
