Today could be the day...

The last 4 days I have moved approximately a ton of fallen walnuts, at last count 15 wheelbarrows.
Today the glorious Michigan winds picked up to almost normal speeds for this time of year 10-15 mph with gusts up to 35mph. Loosened lottsa nuts.

Hopefully today and tonight’s wind will rid this tree of its last progeny.

4 wheelbarrows today, so far.

My heart favorite tool this time of year…Big Nut Roller…. The easy comments will come here.

One of the piles in the field. The squirrels and rabbits along with the deer have been visiting.

Much better tasting than English but 20x harder to get the fruit out.

We had one in our yard when I was a youngster and my mom would make black walnut ice cream. To. Die. For.

Plus my little Havanese dog thinks it’s a “bait pile”. He’s having the time of his life chasing them this will go on most of the winter.

Used to make a white fondant candy with bits of black walnuts. That was 50 years ago but I can still taste it.
