I cut the cable

I’m in Albuquerque and my Comcast bill for basic internet and one step above most basic cable TV cost me $149 monthly.

I discontinued the cable TV and kept the basic internet.
I don’t stream or game, etc. Just use email, read news sites, shop, listen to YouTube, and participate in about 5 internet forums.

I bought one of those flat indoor TV antennas for $10; hooked it up to my non-smart TV, and I get 80 TV channels sharp and clear.
About 30 are religious, shopping, or Spanish ~ leaving me still with about 50 channels I view including ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, Fox non-news, etc.
ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox have NFL games I watch.

My internet now, with taxes and fees, is $70 and change. Saving $79 a month.

(My cell phone is via Consumer Cellular)

They take one topic and beat it to death for days;
then drop it to be replaced with the next bright shiny object.

I get Democracy Now, PBS News Hour, plus international news in English from Germany,
and Japan.
They cover many stories US news ignores, including news of importance in the US.

10. I don't get 'cable channels'

I don't know how they do it. In my way off describing it, I'd say they 'split' their wave length.

For instance channel 4 (NBC here) has about 5 channels (4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5).
So the station broadcasting NBC also broadcast these other stations.
Channel 5 here (PBS) broadcast multiple PBS stations, each with different programing.

There are only a few, maybe six TV towers, here but each are broadcasting out more than one signal.

Two examples:

KOAT-TV ALBUQUERQUE, NM
07-1 KOAT-DT ABC "KOAT 7"
07-2 Estrell Estrella TV
07-3 TCN True Crime Network
07-4 SHOP LC Shop LC

KOB ALBUQUERQUE, NM
04-1 KOBDT1 NBC
04-2 26.4 KOB-DT2 This TV
04-3 26.5 KOBDT3 Comet TV
04-4 26.6 KOBDT4 Heroes & Icons
04-5 26.7 KOBDT5 Defy TV
04-6 26.8 KOBDT6 True Real
04-7 26.9 Newsy

If you look at this, you'll see what's available 'over the air' here.

I have to have Prime anyway, and there's lots of good stuff on their now. I'm not giving back all my cable cutting savings by subscribing to a bunch of streaming services. That's what a few people I know did. It was just a pain in the ass, so they went back to DISH.

But I love having choices and my bill a tiny fraction of what cable TV used to cost me.

I rarely watch a network show at its scheduled time. I really like CBS Sunday Morning at 9:00. But I can't watch it then so I record it. I do that with a number of other network shows as well. So recording is a big deal for me.

I do not record but I do not see why you could not.
I would say it would depend if your TV has an audio video output and the recorder has a way to set the time.

But again I don't know about these things.
Hopefully someone will be able to help you.

super fast cable internet.

Cut off the tv from the cable and bought an arial. Need to find a better over the air set up for a one time cost.

I have a Samsug tv and get free Samsungtv over the internet. About 100 plus channel. Most weird ones like 24 hour Baywatch. I do get The Young Trurks.
Get my MSNBC the next morning here on DU. A really bit shout out to Rhiannon. Before I was falling asleep trying to watch in real time. Hey I'm old.

I am watch fewer hours of tv and getting a lot more done around the house and projects sitting the barn waiting on me.
Best part is I'm saving $115/month, that adds up, $1,380 a year. More time on my side/retirement fun hobby gig.

I may, or may not change it later. Now I'm trilled.
