2. Antlers fall off and regrow once a year -- without antlers, it would be easy.

Just nosing around the local garbage dump would do it. Makes it a little curious that he didn't lose the tire when he was antlerless.

7. A Sawzall inserted between the neck and the tire,

thus sawing outward, would have done the trick without difficulty. Has a narrow blade, cuts easily through metal like butter, and cordless versions are available. They're pretty common...surely they would have been able to find someone with one to borrow. At best, would have taken just minutes to cut through, with no alteration to the animal.

ON EDIT: I see at 1:12 of the video that they are, indeed, using a Sawzall after all, and look about halfway through the tire...wonder why they didn't finish with it.
