The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm the luckiest person in the world.
Half of that luck is bad and the half is good. In a few weeks I'll be 72 years old and I just got back in from a 5 mile run.
I have only one living close relative and only a few good friends and that is enough. 50 years ago, I didn't think I'd live to 30. I manage to survive a terrible life style and changed my ways.
I just hope my story can give others hope.

(24,317 posts)as though I won't live to see another one. I lived my teens like I wouldn't live to be 20, which seemad like a fair assumption at the time with the draft and Vietnam war. I then lived my 20s like I wouldn't see 30, etc.
This all has it's downside, such as retiting a little poorer than if I would have planned on living this long. But the upside is I've had a wonderful life, I've never feared dying and don't now.
But the best part is that eventually I'll be right. I could be lying on my deathbed at 98 and say, "See, I told you I wouldn't make it to 100".

(24,317 posts)I've outlived quite a few of them already. Unfortunately I've outlived quite a few good friends, though.

But it might be hard to see it if you aren't looking in the right places.
Good job, my friend!

(23,926 posts)But I'm 70, got my tender young ass dinged twice in the A Shau, have survived multiple cancers, have been married to the most amazing woman in the world for over 30 years, and have two incredible sons.
Let's call it a draw.
