(66,387 posts)We have actually spoken once or twice on Facebook messenger. I told him how much his help with the German language enhanced my stay there while serving in the Army, and how impressed my German friends were with my proficiency.
Otherwise, he doesn't communicate much on Facebook, and never posts things for anyone to respond to. I guess he's just enjoying being retired. (For me, high school was 1983-1986.)
Anyway, I would love to go into detail with him about my experiences in Germany.

(70,127 posts)after 2 yrs w sister mary alberta, the nun in charge of all creative classes in my little hell, i had about had the art pounded out of me.
the next year they hired a lay teacher. all the other art rats talked me into taking it sr year.
so glad i did. she was so good, and rly went out of her way to beg materials, including smuggling stuff from one of her 2 other jobs.
i did track her down at some point, found her designing sets on broadway.
but would love to buy her a beer. esp as she is prolly retired now. she was busy af then.

(575 posts)He asked me where I wanted to go to college, not if I wanted to. Honestly that question changed my life because until then I really thought college was something kids from other families did. My older brother wasn't so lucky, and later on he told me he felt cheated because he never knew it was an option. So yeah, I'd like to thank that guy.

She would have many stories of value and interest, I'm sure.

(32,645 posts)He was so cool! He actually came to our 50th Reunion (Class of 1969) 2 years ago.
Only he and one other teacher were still around after all this time, but we invited him and he came to the Reunion. It's probably because of Mr. Bakewell that I got a good grounding in civics, and how our government works, and how the political system is supposed to work. We had so many great discussions during my senior year of high school. It's probably because of Mr. Bakewell that I went to college with an interest in being a Political Science major.
