.....a wide river......but it ain't like the mountains...Is it?...Yes, I have been to most of these views in Chicago...Well Most of
them...When the lake is bad, you don't go down there, because you are asking for trouble.......

for the winter seasons 2012 - 2015 and in Yosemite valley in the summer until family obligations took precedent.
Absolutely breathtaking scenery after a heavy snow.
Do miss the beauty but not the crowd's.

If you can know what you are doing (meaning how to stay safe), and you can go off season, the solitude can be just as fulfilling as the scenery when the crowds are gone.
I will add that I grew up in near Indianapolis, and fall colors are so much more spectacular than what we have here. And that first day of spring, when its been friggin' cold all winter, and the sun comes out with little wind, and you feel it -- the end of being cold. Those days are etched in my memory.
Every place has its own special beauty.
