I'm aware that Thanksgiving meals differ by geographic region.
Families have their own traditions. My mom used to make sure we all had our favorite vegetable and we all had our favorite pie. Thank goodness there was some overlap, otherwise she would have needed 4 or 5 stove tops to pull it off.

(104,819 posts)Oh, and Thanksgiving is not Thanksgiving without turkey, but really? Not exactly the best part of the meal (although I'm happy to use the leftovers afterward)...
Most of the sides, which vary, are my favorite. I'm not a big pie person, but I will still sample a little bit. Too much supersweet (yet delicious) pecan pie can send me into a coma, though.

(7,349 posts)I agree about the sweet part. The turkey alone puts me in a coma!

(16,951 posts)Can't wait! We'll have turkey and a ham, too, both of them smoked by a friend of my mom. I think we'll have some green beans, too, of course, and sweet potato pie. Going way off the diet today.

I have to agree with you on pumpkin. Never been a fan. Why don't you like pecan? Too sweet?
MontanaMama
(23,818 posts)But, the men in my house love it so I do make it from time to time for them. I dont eat it, however. Peach pie is my absolute favorite. Now youre making me want one

(7,143 posts)She would use canned whole sour cherries, stuff each one with a walnut half, then soak them overnight in wine (Manischewitz of course).
The cherries would then be carefully arranged in black cherry Jell-O - probably with a hint of wine as well. She never shared the recipe with me, but I think I got it right.
It was absolute perfection.

(16,808 posts)but I'm mad for stuffing with sage in it!
There's also a wonderful meat stuffing: beef, chestnuts, a bit if tomato paste, a bit of garlic and a few other ingredients that my mom made. It maaay be of Greek origin

(2,283 posts)All of it. If it's a healthy or reduced calorie version, double up, because you need to eat twice as much to get the same effect. And it's impolite to not have at least one slice of every pie for dessert
Obviously I expect to be in a full tryptophan and sugar coma in a couple hours, posting while still coherent
