Sounds like you have the same idea I have, somewhat.

Today I lost my landline for a couple hours, (it's working again now,) so I had to rely on my cell phone.

So I have:
landline with one wired phone and a wireless set up with four wireless handsets
my cell
my husband's cell

We get no cell signal (worth talking about) inside the house so they are set to use wireless when we are home. If I go outside and walk to the top of the ridge, I am line of sight to a cell tower about a mile away and get a good signal. There are no cell towers within ten miles on this side of the ridge.

I have an EU cell phone. My wife has an EU cell phone. I have a US cell phone, which I do not check unless I'm in North America. My wife has a US cell phone (when it works--Haley's comet shows up about as often).

We also have two land lines together on an ISDN, plus one more line for the fax, which either is seldom used any more, or else went on strike five years ago, and we never noticed.
