(9,481 posts)But a lot of people don't have a working knowledge of how a liter of something compares to a gallon, how a kilogram of beef compares to a pound, etc. Some people would have to unlearn a lifetime of experience.

(45,453 posts)where my date tried ordering 2 flights of beer for us which would be a total of 4 liters. She had no idea how much a liter was and I was like everyone has seen 2 liter bottles of soda. It's not reasonable to drink that much.

(45,453 posts)100 grams is about the size of a deck of playing cards. A 1 kilo steak is 35 ounces which is a quite a lot of steak.

(45,453 posts)where they have stones for weight, miles for distance, imperial pints for beer which are different from US pints, fathoms for sea depth, and metric for lots of other things. I need a dram of scotch whisky.

Traditionally, "London-style" anvils were embossed with three numbers, giving the weight in cwt, quarter-cwt, and pounds. So ... 1 1 10 would be 112+28+10 = 150 lbs.
Why anyone would choose to say "quarter hundredweight" in place of "two stone" is beyond me.
