I'd be hesitating before setting off on that leg of a north bound journey!

(7,847 posts)Fog, deep snow, freezing rain, Arctic cold, and not least high winds with matching drama in the waters or ice below.
Or a glorious sunny day.

(9,186 posts)Its a mile long, a fifth the length of the Mackinac, but theres no suspension. Its just a road over the water. You do not want to be on that when its windy or slippery or foggy.

(23,980 posts)If you need to cross the Bridge but are afraid of driving yourself, you can ask one of the workers to drive you over for free.
I'd probably call them if I had to cross in this weather.

(26,268 posts)It was a beautiful day and wasn't TOO scary. Also traveled on the Coronado Bay Bridge and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel. I'm a bit acrophobic but still try to enjoy the view.

It goes up and down with twists and turns that could compete with any amusement park's roller coaster. Right next to Lake Erie where winds, fog, ice storms, and Buffalo's infamous lake effect snowfalls make it even more treacherous.
Sane people want it torn down. Not so sane people think it is a grand Buffalo landmark to preserve.

(4,858 posts)...and was scared out of my wits. My friend who was driving laughed at me and actually took a pic or two as he drove, which made me petrified. I still have flashbacks to it...

(86,647 posts)I used to get uncomfortable going over some bridges, this one is a five mile span and the speed limit is usually 25mph so it's a long and uncomfortable dive. And, you can see through the roadway because it's grate rather than solid pavement, not any better at night. The bridge gets closed for things like wind, never tried to cross it in winter and never had fog when I did have to pass over it but I can imagine the agony of the whole drive if there's fog. I would wait until it cleared, fog is dangerous, especially on a bridge.

That sure sounds daunting in tricky times! 🤤

(86,647 posts)The agony of the trip over the bridge was that I could see through the roadway, I don't know if it's like that the whole way But I distinctly recall being able to see through it AND it's way up high off the water, really high. After all these years, I remember the feeling of driving over that bridge. Almost gave me nightmares.

(14,912 posts)I could see how high up it went. Ruh-roh!
Btw...I finally "got" your username. 😄👍

(86,647 posts)No way I'd be crossing it in those conditions. It's scary enough on a good day with no wind (is there such a thing as no wind on that bridge?)

(36,745 posts)You can feel your vehicle lift up when you go over the perforated metal sections of the roadway.
Its fun!
Like a slight roller coaster feel.
