We don't have cable TV because we can't afford it. Since we turned off the cable, we can't watch football, we can't watch Jeopardy, we can't get any PBS programming. All things we used to enjoy.
We have a Roku, and with it comes with some free streaming apps. There is a free version of Hulu, which we use to watch some of our favorite shows THE DAY AFTER they air.
We've been watching The Voice all season. Last night they were supposed to announce the winner. We should be able to stream the episode on Hulu today... BUT FOR SOME REASON, IT'S NOT THERE.

(38,560 posts)but back in the day when we used to have an antenna, the reception stunk (years and years and years ago). We had cable up until about 2 years ago, but they kept going up on their prices and it became financially prohibited to us.
Our episode just now showed up, so we're going to get to see it. I just don't know why it wasn't there hours ago. It's usually there by 7:00 a.m.

(41,144 posts)They air documentaries from around the world, and some PBS programming.
I just discovered this channel on a small, non-cable TV we purchased from Amazon after ditching Verizon.
(We pick up about 15 total channels- NBC News, movies, old westerns, some global news, PBS- but it's FREE. No Jeopardy, Sports, Natl Geo, etc. that I've found. But, your local area could be different.
Also I watch world channel online sometimes.

Some channels say you need their VPN to access-not true but you do need a VPN where you can switch locations in a given area to find a match.

(41,144 posts)an 'HDMI' listed in the Input Source Mode button- not sure what that means or if we get HDTV.
> Thanks for the secret squirrel info.
(*The one drawback is the TV's tripod BASE, a bear to try to set up- so look for another type).

(53,035 posts)Those flat ones work well. Then you could get local channels including PBS, depending on how close you live to the stations.

The transmissions are less-than HD in quality, but rock solid.
