They are universally terrible. All they do is stand around staring at their phones or gossiping with their equally vapid co-workers about their tattoos or something.
Actually the drinking age should be raised to 30. Stop these criminals before they order another chocolate martini!

Plastic is around 30% more expensive since Nov 2020.

I said to the old guy pouring drinks: 'Give me a Rob Roy!'
He gave me a hard look for a few seconds and then said: 'I haven't heard that drink order in twenty years!'
Of course he made it perfectly. Old bartenders are the cat's Meow!

He was so happy!

Never trust anyone under 30!

(19,201 posts)A chocolate martini is actually a thing?
It's been a long time since I sat on a barstool. The Gen-Zers were all in their Huggies yet. I don't feel qualified to comment on them, but I can comment on something as horrid as a 'chocolate martini'. What a devastating waste of liquor. A martini isn't supposed to taste like candy.
What has become of today's young people.

I blame James Bond. Skaken, not stirred will ruin a Martini made with Gin.

(24,300 posts)ruins a good Gin. It will appear cloudy due to tiny bubbles the shaking causes. This is known as bruising the Gin. It's not a problem with Vodka.
TexasBushwhacker
(20,196 posts)Because the difference between good gin and cheap gin is dramatic, taste wise, whereas cheap vodka in a cocktail will probably go unnoticed.
Mr.Bill
(24,300 posts)Vodka also mixes well with other flavors. This allows a Vodka "menu". Let's face it, a Gin Martini is a Gin Martini. You can use different garnishes, vary the amount of Vermouth, add a little Olive Oil and that's about it. No one wants a Chocolate Gin Martini. I get that.
The other thing is, Gin has a love it or hate it flavor for most people. I was disgusted with the first one I tasted. It was cheap Gin and poorly made. I didn't acquire a taste for Gin until I had top notch Gin and a Martini that was properly made. Today the craft Gin market has exploded. I've tasted a few and loved them, I wish I could afford to keep many of them on my shelf, but my retirement budget won't allow that. I have stuck with Tanqueray for nearly 50 years and still enjoy it.

(29,672 posts)So really whats wrong with it being made with vodka??
Mr.Bill
(24,300 posts)It's just not a true classic Martini. But drink what you like. That's what's important.
The problem is in all those James Bond movies, He would say "shaken, not stirred" so many bartenders think that's what you do with all Martinis. It's okay with Vodka, but it affects good Gin in a negative way. It seems when I order one in a bar, if I don't specify to stir it, not shake it, they will shake it just about every time.

(19,201 posts)and I haven't had a drink in 23 years due to medication issues. I used to be a Remy-Martin man when I drank. I know, Cognac vs. Brandy. There's not much difference between the two. Not all Brandys are Cognacs, but all Cognacs are Brandys. At least that's what I was told by a Manhattan bartender/sommelier.
Thanks for the tip though. If I ever start drinking again I'll keep it in mind.

(43,408 posts)You are correct about brandy and Cognac.
Brandy has many subtypes, such as Armagnac, Cognac, etc, plus the many types of eau de vie, such as pomace (grappa, marc, etc, and also rye pomace, etc) and the myriad number of fruit brandies, like calvados (apple) and slivovitz (plum), etc .

(442 posts)I grew up hearing "when I was your age" and vowed to never be that person. My taste in music, art, movies...everything...was ridiculed and even forbidden. I thought of my parents and other "old" people as shallow and grumpy.
I will listen to new music, eat new food, experience new things until I die. I might not agree with it all or come close to understanding their reasons for some things. It's not my problem nor theirs.
I also actually love Chocolate Martinis, though I prefer a "real" Martini...with gin.
Anyway...a lot of the Gen Zers are pretty good kids. Smart, environmentally conscious, concerned about the future of humanity. Don't care if they can't serve me a drink.
Cheers to all ages...old, young, and ageless.
