Questions about attitudes toward online reviews
As a consumer, I don't often write reviews. Every so often service is particularly good or a product exceeds expectations and so I'll leave a review, sometimes when asked, sometimes unprompted. I sometimes leave bad reviews, but not often.
Do I read reviews? Yes, starting with the 1-star reviews. With the reports I've seen about fake reviews on Amazon, I've come to distrust Amazon reviews. I read them, but take them with a grain of salt, or at least with a jaundiced eye.
What I dislike is companies asking for reviews after every purchase, even if it is a repeat purchase. What's there to say? I asked a question, your rep answered it. I bought your product and you shipped it to me. That's what you're there for. Is that worth five stars? It's annoying. I have your product on autoship. Do I have to tell you all the time that I like it? That's just too needy.
So, what's the take here?
The reason I ask. I have a website and I sell stuff. I can enable reviews, but I haven't. I get emails from the BBB urging me to sign up with the review app they're associated with. Knowing how I feel about reviews, I definitely don't want to annoy my customers with requests for reviews.
If you're a small business, what's you take on reviews?
Thanks.
