(13,900 posts)1. My mother used to make a fabulous fruit cake. She only used raisins and
nuts and none of those awful currants and she doused it in booze, wrapped it in a towel and let it sit in a dark place for about a month. Everybody, including us kids, got a little tipsy on Christmas day.

(13,899 posts)4. I was introduced to Claxton fruitcake a long time, from a Navy shipmate that hailed from Claxton.
He talked it up to all of us and shared some with us. I think he made a few converts that day.
