The Duchess of Cambridge wows TV audiences with a musical piano performance on Christmas Eve

The Duchess of Cambridge delighted British television audiences on Christmas Eve as she performed on the piano at the Royal Carols service. This is the first time Her Royal Highness has demonstrated her pianist skills publicly.

Catherine performed alongside singer Tom Walker in the programme ‘Royal Carols: Together at Christmas’ which was broadcast on ITV.

The service was organised by the Duchess as a thank you to the millions of people who have been supporting their communities during the ongoing public health emergency.

Catherine and Tom Walker performed his famous hit ‘Leave A Light On’ following many weeks of secret rehearsals.

At first I was going to kibbitz that her skills were just chords, but she branched out towards the end. That said, Meghan doesn't play does she.

Well, aristocratic ladies have time and tutors for ladylike skills.

**** To explain (exculpate?) myself, am democratic/ anti-royal.

If you don't like any of the royal family even if they are trying to comfort people during a pandemic, that's your business. But Lupacelle is sharing this because other people might find it moving. Imagine how she feels when your reply is the first response to her gift.

It was a beautiful performance and a touching piece.

There are a lot of us who don't have those we wish around us. Even more this year than ever. Peace to all and may the memories sustain you.

I can’t wait til she’s queen. She will be an incredible representative of the crown.

throughout her school years. Here's what her former music teacher said of her skills, "Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge is a former pianist with a solid grade 5 (intermediate level) music theory, but I don't think she was ever going to be a concert pianist".

Her parents worked for the airlines industry, before opening a successful business. During William and Kate's long courtship, there was plenty of tabloid snark about the "middle class Middletons".

Walker wrote his holiday song "For Those Who Can't Be here" in memory of his grandfather who had died that year. Many people find it particularly poignant, given all the circumstance surrounding covid.

During the somewhat subdued celebrations of the 75th anniversary of VE Day, the touchstone WWII song "We'll Meet Again". was repurposed into a song of hope and better days to come for everyone in lockdown.

Great Britain is neither a democracy nor a republic; it is a constitutional monarchy. I sometimes think there is a benefit to having a head of state who is different from the head of government. During times of crisis, it may be preferable to have a figure who is apolitical as a rallying point.
