(1,952 posts)I bought filet mignon last night to cook for supper today.
Your post made me think, a local gourmet supermarket has sold premade fresh beef or salmon wellington. I've gotten both a few times over the years. If I hadn't bought the steak I'd be going there to see if they have ii available, because of your post. Lol
Enjoy your supper.
Happy new year.

(1,562 posts)Beef Wellington may be the easiest spectacular recipe to make. Frozen puff pastry is the key.
Sear the beef all over, then set aside. Dont let internal temp go much beyond 90.
Chop mushrooms, shallots and garlic, then sauté briefly with red wine until most moisture is gone, so low heat.
Lay out the frozen puff pastry on a cookie sheet type of deal (its gonna go in the oven)
Put the beef on top of it
Slather your favorite prepared mustard over the beef
Spread the sautéed mushrooms over the beef
Wrap the puff pastry around the beef and mushroom stuff (known as duxelles at this point)
Bake in the oven at around 325 until the pastry is brown and the beef hits an internal temp of 120 (Youve got an instant read meat thermometer, right?) Itl take 20-30 minutes
Serve, dig on the oohs and ashs.
People will think you know how to cook.

(1,952 posts)And it came out really well. Made my new years Eve a bit more memorable. I did something new!
Thanks
And another memorable event for today, here in western NC it's 72 degrees on new years day! Although we're due for rain tonight and tomorrow it feels like spring today. Wonder if we'll break a record.
Happy new year.

(14,978 posts)but I'd be afraid that the beef wouldn't be done and the puff pastry overcooked.
I think I'll just come over to your house the next time you make it! .

(1,562 posts)It really is easy. I used this recipe to impress women when I was dating. It gives the impression that youre competent at stuff.

(63,221 posts)That sounds like a great recipe. Some include pate along with the duxelles, but I prefer it w/out pate (too rich). Also, it seems very easy, which appeals to lazy gourmets like me!
