(4,608 posts)Enjoyed the season that aired, was bummed when it was cancelled.
I dont know if its considered obscure but, around the same time period, we (my ex and I) enjoyed the hell out of Treme. We didnt know anyone else who watched it and recommended it to everyone.

Wiseguy is an American crime drama television series that aired on CBS from September 16, 1987, to December 8, 1990, for a total of 75 episodes over four seasons. The series was produced by Stephen J. Cannell and was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, to avoid the higher studio costs associated with filming in Los Angeles.
Wiseguy originally starred Ken Wahl as Vinnie Terranova, a Brooklyn native and deep cover operative for the FBI under the supervision of senior agent Frank McPike, played by Jonathan Banks. The primary cast was rounded out by Jim Byrnes, who played an information operative known as Lifeguard (real name Daniel Burroughs) who assisted Vinnie in the field. This cast remained together for three full seasons, after which Wahl left the series. The writers conceived a new lead character, Michael Santana, played by Steven Bauer.

(5,477 posts)Was only on for one season, 26 episodes, 1986-87 timeframe.
They would take a specific short timeframe (Summer of 1969, Halloween 1938, etc.) and use archival footage to show what was going on around the world then. I was fascinated by the show, but the ratings weren't great, so it was replaced by a couple of sitcoms.
Ellerbee and Gandolf had a wonderful way of presenting the material to make it interesting and relevant.
Good article about it on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_World_(1986_TV_program)

(14,903 posts)or maybe it grew in prominence over time.
How many don't get the theme tune when some one imitates it.
Or spoof sketches I've seen over the decades.
I think they also did a reboot...🤔

(205,405 posts)It was a series on CBS in the '90s - about a TV newsroom. It had a great cast, but inexplicably only lasted one season. I used to be responsible for the CBS TV listings for the newspapers, so I watched a lot of the shows. And my cousin who actually worked in a TV newsroom - though it was an NBC affiliate - really liked it and told me that others in her newsroom watched it and liked it, too. I could think of others I liked that didn't make it, but WIOU tops my list.
Classic TV Theme: WIOU
A short run 1990 series about a fictional tv station; employees called it WIOU because they had trouble staying a step ahead of the creditors. An impressive cast, and nice theme courtesy of Gary Chang, didn't save the show, which was yanked leaving its 14th (final) episode unseen.

(34,195 posts)"One season wonder Lucas Tanner (NBC, 1974-1975) starred David Hartman as a motivated high school teacher with a unique teaching style."
Lucas Tanner is an American drama series that aired on NBC during the 197475 season.
The title character, played by David Hartman, was a former baseball player and sportswriter who becomes an English teacher at the fictional Harry S Truman High School in Webster Groves, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis.
Episodes often dealt with the resistance of traditional teachers to Tanner's unorthodox teaching style.
