freshwater aquarium question

I'm looking to stock my new 15 gal aquarium. I know how space is limited. I don't want tetras or aggressive fish.

I like loaches, especially khuli loaches. I know these have to school, though. Again, numbers are limited.

Maybe I'll get a couple of tiny shrimps. Other than that, I can't think of what to get that won't crowd the place.

Suggestions? Ideas? Information?

Thanks!

(Purchases aren't imminent; the aquarium is still cycling.)

haven't had an aquarium in a long time but the old rule was about an inch of fish per gallon to start.

I'll look into gouramis. Thanks!

Twenty years ago I was ignorant of the nitrogen cycle and I killed a lot of tetras. My guilt lives on.

... and similar are easy to maintain.

Shrimps can be difficult - do your research before deciding.

Mollies and swordtails are fun, but you'll get babies. And gouramis can get big.

Have plenty of aeration.

Pangio kuhlii loaches are the friendliest fish I know! If you keep enough of them together they will bring you hours of goofy entertainment. This is my kuhlii tank with 12 kuhli loaches in it and some diamond tetras as well as blue Corydoras.

A lovely, lovely tank. How long has it been running? What size?

I too will have sand, but black sand, and I'm going to plant it.

Thanks again!

I mainly used to keep three emerald corydoras with a crown tail betta in a ten gallon, but haven't kept an aquarium in recent years. Those were my favorites. The corys were very hardy and active in all levels of the tank.
