It's the more recent ones that I'd like to forget.

(23,634 posts)But most at 5 yrs and after
My grandfather died when I was 5, but I have distinct memories of him, his appearance and interactions with him when my family visited my grandparents.
I also remember peering into a window from outside at a scene of a birthday party being setup, the cake was a train with engine, 1 car and a caboose with chocolate icing and wondering whose birthday it was
it was mine because there are pictures from the party, which I dont remember happening. But I do remember seeing it being setup beforehand. That was my 4th birthday.
I remember that cake in particular because it had chocolate icing and most of my cakes afterward were Spring themed (April bd) and had dyed green coconut topping for grass
until I finally complained that I didnt like coconut 😐
To this day I detest coconut 🤨

I remembered some fascinating wallpaper on a living room wall and asked my Mom about it. She was floored and said I was around six months old then. When we briefly lived there she put me in an indoor baby swing where I would have been facing it.
That has to be my earliest memory I am aware of.
Congratulations to all today's milestones!

(16,374 posts)My most vivid extended memory goes back to no more than 2 years old, but could have happened when I was closer to 18 months. I woke up from a nap in my crib and called for my mother to come get me. There was quite a bit of room around me in the crib. I stood up at the bars, that were around shoulder height and yelled, and then cried for my mom. She didn't come so I sat down and thought about the possibility of scaling the crib bars and getting down myself. It was a long way down and I couldn't figure out how to get myself up to the top bar. And anyway, I clearly remember thinking, I didn't think I could reach the doorknob to open the door. Eventually my mother showed up, of course, and got me out. She had gone to a neighbor's apartment.
I have lots of other memories from around then. One is of riding in my brown wicker stroller and once or twice sitting in the stroller outside a store while my mother went in to get something. (You can tell I'm old from that.) That was in the middle of Chicago, no less.

(14,903 posts)I remember being Pre-K ?'57 - milk and cookies, nap time, drawing, an indoor wooden slide, and portable see saws outside in nice weather. (We were more upper middle class, when my mom got sick after I was 5 1/2 we became middle middle class)
I have one memory when I was 3 being on a motorboat as a kid on a lake. I have the photo to prove it! It says I'm 3.😁
Congrats to everyone. 👍

(41,963 posts)I was hospitalized quite a bit as a little kid. My earliest memory is of my mothers father, of standing up in a bed with rails and crying as he receded down a hallway on the other side of a window in a door. I didnt know specifically what it was until I found out my father was called back from an overseas assignment early because I was sick. My mother and I were staying with her parents. I was near a year old.
