That you can spill spaghetti sauce on that sweater and not mind!
I've been thinking of taking up knitting lately, only with yarn. We have a fabulous knitters/weavers store in my city.

knit and purl. Try learning the less-movement-involved (European?) purl -- makes the work go by faster.

I knitted a coat and hat for my Barbie doll (still have it) ages ago. That's about it for my two stick prowess. I have crocheted in the past (one stick).

circular needles: much lighter weight and easier to manage.
