Born this day in 1930 - he’s won 2 Academy Awards, 4 Golden Globes, 1 Screen Actors Guild Award, and 2 BAFTAs. Upon the death of Sidney Poitier earlier this year he became the oldest living and earliest surviving Best Actor Oscar-winner.

Gene Hackman is 92 today. He's one of the finest actors in cinema history. His range is phenomenal, he can stir you, break your heart, make you laugh, make you cry, scare the crap out of you, make you hate him or make you love him. He's absolutely stunning.
Happy Birthday, Gene

Every time "The French Connection" comes on TV, I find myself watching it once more. I wish "The Conversation" was shown more often---best thing Coppolla ever made, in my opinion.

The first thing I ever saw him in was, "Bonnie & Clyde", with my sisters at a drive-in, while our folks were on a trip. "The Poseidon Adventure" next, in high school--also the first time I'd ever been in a movie theater. I cried when he died.

He's excellent as a good guy (like, "Enemy of the State), but is truly awesome as a bad guy. "Unforgiven", "The Quick and the Dead", "Prizzi's Honor", "Crimson Tide", and my favorite, "No Way Out."

So many more for one of the most versatile actors ever. Happy Birthday, Gene, and many more!
