Does anyone know where to get good free ebooks for the Nook?

Last edited Thu Jul 26, 2012, 12:03 AM - Edit history (2)

The Barnes & Noble site has many free ebooks, like classics with expired copyrights. Unfortunately, the ones I have downloaded so far have several copying errors and are a pain to read.

EDIT: I checked my local library online and found out I am able to borrow and download ebooks.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was skeptical when I first heard about these, but this thing is really cool.

many local libraries check out ebooks now-

Google books, the Free Library...there's another one; I'll post it when I can remember it. Also, sign up for your local college or library "Friends of the Library"....you can get books from there also-

I've not been dissatisfied as of yet. Also check your library. Our library has many, many ebooks available, new & old.

From there go to the mobileread.com forums and collect all sorts of links and conversion software.

For example, "Deals, Freebies, and Resources": http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=26

I'll also confess I don't consider myself a pirate if I remove Digital Rights Management from books I've bought so long as I don't share them, and I don't. (You won't find how at Calibre or mobileread, nor from me. You'll have to visit rougher internet neighborhoods.) I simply won't mess with any file formats or software that doesn't last. I've got thirty year old stuff just one or two clicks away on my current desktop. It would make me unhappy if twenty years from now I couldn't open some book I bought today. So I won't buy anything with DRM I can't remove. I'd rather buy paper.

It's a conundrum I'll leave it for the publishers and authors to decide... if they don't want to sell electronic books that can be copied then they don't have to. There's plenty to read that's not encumbered, and it's free. Lifetimes of reading, in fact...

called the "Free Friday" selection. If you are a friend on FB you will get a message there about it, or you can search for it on B&N's website too.
