(7,715 posts)It should give you the options there, including 3G, 4G, LTE, 5G etc, based on your specific phone the operating system.
If it is a phone you bought in the last few years new, there's about a 100% chance it is at least 3G.

(7,715 posts)I have an Android phone. If you go to the top of your screen, and scroll down, you should see some of the key network settings. There should be a "gear" icon in the right of that window that pops up
Press it, and then look for Network & Internet. Within that, there should be a setting for "Mobile Network". There you can see whether your phone is 3G etc.
By chance, do you have the model number for your Samsung? Then, we can look it up and tell you definitively.

(24,303 posts)It's still working, but I went on a trip 180 miles away and it didn't want to work there. Am I okay with 5G?

(49,004 posts)that's at least 4G LTE. As I posted elsewhere here, you'll be able to use 4G LTE for at least several years. You don't have to have a 5G phone.
If that's a phone you got through Verizon, which some of what I read suggests it might have been, then you need to know that Verizon will be retiring their CDMA network completely by the end of this year.

You should be able to find a 4G LTE phone and plan for a reasonable price. Again, you don't have to have 5G yet.

(24,303 posts)Whenever I go to the Verizon store with my wife, who has a smart phone, they tell me "That phone won't work after January 1st." They've been telling me that for about five years. I guess maybe it's for real this time.

(10,884 posts)At least that's how it went with my wife's phone on AT&T. We had identical phones, but mine had VoLTE enabled. Hers was banned, mine was allowed.

It's really, really going to suck in rural areas unless you are right next to a tower.
