(5,935 posts)Aside from my family, my greatest treasure is my years of teaching (recently retired). The secret? Make learning fun, treat students the way I wanted to be treated as a student and the way I wanted teachers to treat my daughters.

(759 posts)My greatest treasure is my husband Jose. Gordy, owner of the bar my dear friend Doug and I hung around at told me of a good looking young Hispanic man that had been going to the bar on occasion. I told Gordy to call me at Dougs house (I spent a lot of time hanging out there) if and when Jose ever showed up at the bar. One evening Gordy called Dougs home and left a one word message, Bingo. This was in early 1996.
We hightailed it down to the bar, and there was Jose. I made full use of my poor high school Spanish to introduce myself. We have shared our lives together ever since, getting married in November 2014 after the Supreme Court made their decision to legalize gay marriages.

In the great lottery of the universe I won a ticket to earth. What are the odds?
That's one for my scrapbook.

(1,962 posts)It's a lovely diamond and gold bracelet. What's its value? I don't know. I know it's gorgeous and means the world to me.
It belonged to my late girlfriend.
I found the most wonderful and beautiful and amazing person ever back in 2008. I loved - and still love - her with all my heart. I lost her to cancer. After she died, her daughter contacted me and thanked me for bringing love and happiness to her mom's life during her final moments, and said "I want to send you something to remember her by."
So her bracelet sits on my desk. It's something. I wish I could have her back.. I just have this piece of her.
