I'd have to go with Richard Dreyfuss as Curt too. Ron Howard told the funniest story on the Talk a couple years ago about how he was the only one who brought his own car to the set and was standing next to it in the parking lot at the motel they were staying at and Harrison Ford and Paul LeMat were throwing beer bottles at him from their 2nd floor window yelling "Dance Opie Dance".

Because that was me in high school. (In the 80's, not the 60's, though.) A hopeless nerd trying so desperately not to be a nerd.

First, let me say I'm 68 years old, live in California and am a gear head. I lived the life depicted in that movie, only about ten years later than the time frame of the movie. I've seen the movie over 50 times.

For years I watched it over and over trying to figure out what character I am, even including being a male version of some of the female characters. Then years ago I read an interview with George Lucas that put it into focus.

He said the events depicted in that one night consists of every crazy thing he could remember happening to him in high school packed into one night and spread out over a number of characters. One night you might be John Milner, another night you were Toad, etc. That explained it too me. It's a story about how different life can be from day to day during those formative years. Fifty years later, I still can't relate totally to being any one character. I can maybe narrow it down to six or eight of them, just on different nights.

I can't remember her character's name but she was one bad-ass kid. I think I was the same age as her.

His calm counsel encouraged Curt to follow his dream and leave for college. Of the four friends - Steve, Curt, John and Terry - he was the only one to escape Modesto. If it weren't for the Wolfman's advice, Curt would probably have spent his working years in Modesto selling real estate or something.
