The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsOkay, so something weird happened the other day. And I wondered if it was the seams of a whole
other world.
So, my hubby and I were coming home after running the track and we decided to drive-thru Einstein bagels because we wanted to do an errand before returning home. Lunch was just going to be a quick affair.
We buy the lunch and go to the other side of the shopping center where closed stores had left a mega-parking lot free of other cars. We don't even really park in the lines because we planned to eat quickly and move on.
In the short time we were parked, another car turns up and stops just two or three parking spaces away. It's weird. The entire empty parking lot, and he parks where we are, away from the buildings. In fact, the farthest distance from the buildings. So we start making movements to pick up trash and shoving it in the bag, because I sense something off about the whole thing. The car drives to the next line of empty parking spaces and parks. We see a foot come out of the window, as if the driver is leaning back in his chair.
We're gone seconds later.
Was this guy a drug dealer, thinking we were looking for a score?

Whatever thought process drew you to that spot, was perhaps working in that guy too. Maybe?

(35,367 posts)2 or 3 bucket trucks would show up, unlock the gate then drive in lock the gate behind them then park with their feet hanging out the door for a Saturday morning snooze. On weekdays a guy and a young lady would show up around 11 am and disappear
in this little brick building on the property for an hour or so.

(12,051 posts)no cars and this guy has to park next to you? Why, exactly? It would be obvious that you two wanted some space to eat lunch, so why would this guy do what he did? It's not because he, too, wanted some space -- he'd park far away from you in that case.
There ARE people, mostly men, who love to get in other people's spaces just because it makes them feel powerful, and because it disconcerts you and plays with your heads. Think of the lovely folks who seem to want to run you off the sidewalk, or the knee-spreading jerk taking up 2 seats on the bus. Or the nut who, when he sees a new car parked waaay out in the lot to prevent dings, makes it a mission to park right next to that car, just for grins. Those are the relatively harmless folks. Assholes, but harmless.
Then there are the predators who see that you are cut off from the herd, and decide to (harass/rob/beat up) some prey.
You have no idea what category that guy was in, so you did the right thing by getting the hell out of there.
