Going way back to 1980 when my sister and I got our first apartment together and my grandmother got us a microwave as a housewarming gift, right up until this new microwave... Every single microwave I've used, all of them... Ones I've owned, ones at friends houses, ones at work, ones at the 7/11... Every single one of them... If you put in a cup to heat the contents, it took ten seconds for the handle to make one rotation... Till now. This new microwave takes 20 seconds to make a rotation. And it's bothering me way more than it should. I don't know what it means, I don't know if it matters but... It's really bothering the crap out of me

It will be fine. The speed of the turntable is not critical to its function. The original microwaves didn't have a turntable at all.

(7,294 posts)So true! I remember when it was a selling point for a microwave to have the rotating feature.
And in all my years/decades of microwave use, I can confidently claim that I never *once* counted the number of rotations per second! Of course, that will have to change now, thanks (not!) OP.

(17,425 posts)Scientists have just discovered a programming error in every calculator ever made.
Every single one.
There is a big announcement coming out today that is going to advise people of the need to go back subtract "2" from any answer they ever got by using a calculator.
Do you know how long that's going to take?
I wonder how it will affect the world economy?
This is true...I read it somewhere.
The rotation of your microwave might have something to do with this calculator error. I'll keep an eye out for any more news on this, and let you know.

(14,624 posts)doesnt rotate in a circle at all.
In fact, the glass plate inside this freakish machine isnt round, but is rectangular. When in use, the glass plate moves from side to side, then shifts from back to front.
Talk about a mind f@ck!
I think its spying on me.

(5,225 posts)Your avoiding the stress of watching news by watching your microwave turn. Great idea.

(7,397 posts)worked at all except the lights underneath. I fiddled around with it (technical term) and eventually flipped the breaker switch and it is working fine again. I'm trying to remember if it is turning in the same direction or opposite. If opposite, will I get 21 more years out of it?

(34,136 posts)And I was relying on it for some of the things I needed to cook Christmas Day - mostly vegetables.
So I spent some shopping time on the internet, found one in stock at the local Lowes that I liked, paid for it online and sent my husband to the store to pick it up. He got there fifteen minutes before the store closed but they had it at the front desk ready to be picked up. I think they understood the urgency of the situation - why else would someone buy a microwave on Christmas Eve?

(34,136 posts)The one that broke was a cheap $89 one from Target that lasted ten years. The "new" one cost about $150, works about the same, and has now lasted about five years.
I have three requirements for a microwave: at least 1100 watts, no button to push to open the door, and a regular ten digit keypad. It's amazing how few meet those criteria.

Heavy and huge beast. We used it for 25 years before having to replace it.

(34,136 posts)Absolutely a tank of a unit. And yes, it lasted forever.
By the time I had to replace it, the entire technology involved with microwave ovens had changed and I had to relearn how to use one.

(22,034 posts)You know the screen on the microwave's door? The one with the round holes in it?
Those holes are smaller than the microwaves and that's why it's safe to look through the window. The microwaves can't get through the holes because the waves are larger than the holes.
If you have trouble using the machine, heat your food on the stove. It really doesn't take that long.

(29,655 posts)how hot the item is getting, check item, its not hot enough, so I just shut the door hit start again and the rotation of the item is now going the other way!!!!! Its like it starts out rotating clockwise, then a reset without changing time or power or anything, it goes into counterclockwise!!! Whats up with that??
