(8,042 posts)I'm house sitting for a friend (who normally doesn't have HBO) and it came up when I was channel surfing on her T.V. I have HBO and HBO Max but not Cinemax at home.

Somebody Somewhere is set in Manhattan, Kansas and features the immensely talented Bridget Everett going through a mid-life crisis after returning to her hometown to take care of her sick sister. Despite the sad sound of that premise it is a funny, beautifully drawn picture of small town life for those who are often considered outsiders due to sexual orientation, body type, etc. Not preachy or maudlin but warm, insightful and funny.
The Tourist is originally from the BBC and is one of the best thrillers I've seen. Intelligent and inventive it has elements of Memento with a main character who has amnesia but easier to follow (at least for me) than that film and more heartfelt. It also gives a glimpse into life in the Australian outback. Great script and acting. I've already started rewatching it.
I'll also throw in Season 2 of Painting with John if anyone is a fan of iconoclast John Lurie, his music or art. Really creative and unique.
