(6,930 posts)but I swear it's like whack a mole...should I pause Netflix, and then I can get HBO for a month? or should I get Apple and cancel Hulu? Or maybe hoopla has that for free, or maybe Prime has two seasons' worth and then you have to start paying for episodes...or is Sling showing that? or is Showtime showing good stuff this month?
I can't keep up!!

(25,909 posts)Its rare to find a remake I like as much as - or even more than - the original.

(31,374 posts)Didn't like the staging of several of the dance numbers.
Really didn't like taking away the Somewhere song at the end from Maria and giving it to Rita Moreno character. I sense a heavy hand from Rita Moreno as an executive producer.
I thought the story lost momentum, with all the dialogue Tony Kushner wrote for the new book. The original was all about the music and the dance. They both got lost in the remake.
Never mess with a classic.

(70,652 posts)what this version has going for it is the nearer social depictions and SPIELBERG's direction. In my book, that he KEPT Lenny's MUSIC intact is all there is and therefore nothing had to be remade.
For me, MUSIC/MELODY is *ALL* and the story/lyrics/ is totally subordinate. I was going to say "especially" with this piece of work, but in my MELODY world with any piece of work.
So, thanks, SPIELBERG for keeping the music intact. That's all there is, didn't need to be remade and therefore awards either.
It's been. Done.
