1. Sincere thanks for the topic. - Am not invested this year (& therefore should stay out of the thread

The most recent time I was invested was for The Favourite (3 yrs ago?) and before that for Black Swan, Olivia COLMAN, Natalie PORTMAN.

I *did* go to a theater (a RARE thing) to see West Side Story just to see whether anything bad was done to Lenny's music, and SPIELBERG honored it to keep it intact, so that was the end of it for me. The "updating" to make it more socially expressive and the mechanics of directing and the different faces of the cast were all irrelevant to me. My pet theory is that MELODY is all that matters, not lyrics and story. It has been. Done. If the music was going to be left intact, there was even less need to remake this.

I dread that Cabaret is redone in London with REDMAYNE and Jessie (not Betty) BUCKLEY getting rave reviews. But if they film it, I'll go on patrol to see it. ON EDIT: Google says the play closed six months ago, he getting a best actor, she getting an Olivier.

2. Your concerns about the remake of West Wide Story

... are well founded. Many of us older folks had the same reservations. However there are lots of younger movie fans who weren't around to see the original "West Side Story" - I was maybe 10 when it came out. And yes, I loved the original Tony and Maria.

But if we can allow ourselves to "forget" the original version, I believe it's easy to enjoy the new one. At least give it a chance, you'll probably enjoy the music and dancing if nothing else. It's quite good actually.

3. Thanks for not taking offense that I didn't intend. But the chance I gave it was to see it.

The music is there so that's that. The new leader of the Jets did a bang up acting job but the new Anita rubs me really wrong both in the role and in her talk show interviews. She's overly self empowered beyond my interest in her. And the Tony Maria are blips for me. The Officer Krupke performance was the best in the thing for me.

And Rita MORENO has been there done that and shows it with her detachment and proves my point.

Will play YouTubes of the music but not the movie again.
