For anyone who's had a dental implant, does the bone in the gumline really grow back?

I had an extraction and implant and the area around the gum line sinks in where my old tooth used to be. My dentist said that a lot of that bone loss grows back, which is why I have to wait 3-6 months to get a new tooth. Is that true?

Also - did they pack it with pulverized donor bone that will bond and regrow in the area of the extraction?

Just asking because many assume that…

Mine was donated human bones

I asked and wanted details of where they come from and treated

So - to answer your question in OP…. yes, it takes approximately 4-6 months for the bone remodeling and the compacted bone to graft and grow with your bone and harden before the implant anchor can be drilled into it.

I HATE my dentist giving me details.....I ESPECIALLY hate it when he tries to show me stuff via that mini camera, makes me nauseated

I was that little kid that was always asking questions of how and why and wanting details. For the several surgeries I have had including an appendectomy, I would ask the surgeons in advance how they conduct the procedure and wanted to see the removed organ and/or tumor (had to settle for pictures). I even watched a surgery on my leg to remove a cancerous melanoma tumor. (Fat lipids really look disgusting).

For an implant or any foreign substance being placed in my body I wanted to know where it came from, was manufactured and of what material. I wanted to know with the bone graft where the donor bone came from - how they prevent a diseased bone from getting in the mix etc….

Yes, sometimes ignorance is bliss and I have asked a few questions more than I wish. But armed with info, I feel I make better decisions in life.
