Shopping therapy today

I've had bronchitis or something for a month, finally feeling better. I got email from Big Lots that they have their store-wide 20% off coupon until 3/26. The local store is very large, and never crowded. I haven't been in a store since December, so I went. I restocked on some kitchen and household supplies and bought some snacks that might tempt my appetite back. After I left, Big Lots, I went through the drive-through at Long John Silver's and got a a fish dinner. Which did tempt my appetite I think this dose of shopping therapy did a lot of good

It gets folks out and they walk through the stores as they browse. Shopping has been an activity ever since communities first had marketplaces likely thousands of years ago. Nowadays, you are not as likely to get to know the butcher, baker, produce seller, or even candlestick maker on a personal basis, but you still might bump into a neighbor or friendly face while browsing. People often look their best when they go out to shop.

I think this is what made malls successful while they were a thing. They capitalized on the idea of marketplaces in a more commercial way and provided some appeal to kids as well as grown-ups. They also had food courts to meet friends at and lots of bright flashy things and sales to part a shopper from their money. Shopping malls were an adventure.

It has been challenging to transfer the personal shopping experience to on-line. You don't get the activity part of it. Heck--you don't even have to put on clean clothes...or any clothes.

I hope you continue to feel well.
