This really bugs me.

Formication. It's happening to me again, I guess because I'm depressed and angry about the state of the world.

Article snip:

Formication is the feeling of insects crawling across or underneath your skin. The name comes from the Latin word “formica,”which means ant.

Formication is known as a type of paresthesia. Paresthesia happen when you feel sensations on your skin that don’t have a physical cause. Paresthesia can take many forms. These can include burning, tingling, or numbness. With formication, you might also describe the “crawling” sensation as feeling like “pins and needles.” Formication is also called a tactile hallucination. This means that you’re feeling a sensation that has no physical cause.

Sometimes it feels like I have tape stuck to the bottom of my foot, sometimes it feels like cold water dripping on the top. Now I KNOW there isn't any, but it still makes me look. There is nothing I can do to make it stop, it happens at the worst times occasionally. I can understand how people feel limbs they have had amputated.
Speaking of tactile hallucinations did you know you can have olfactory hallucinations? I've had them all my life, no medical cause can be found for me. Most of the smells are pleasant: oranges, coffee, crayons, fresh cut grass. A few not so much: tar, rotting fish, dirty laundry, beets. The smell can last a minute or hours.

Hallucinations too
Sadly most of them I have stink. Burning ,strange chemical type smell, something like body odor but different,
It sucks.

And I get with the tactile stuff, when I go to bed it starts and the itching drives me crazy. Its always the same areas too.

(I was foolish enough to think I could play indoor soccer in a mixed male/female league).

Most of the skin on my shin was numb for quite some time. I could see myself shaving my leg but couldn't feel it. Normal sensation gradually returned over many years, and there is still some kind of regeneration going on.

I'll notice an odd sensation of cold water running down my leg when I am not anywhere near water. Very odd.

I think I may be, even though I try to drink enough water. I have to do it a sip at a time, or I feel as if I'm drowning. Maybe it's what being waterboarded feels like. I've been this way ever since I was a baby - well, that's what my mom told me anyway.

Thanks for mentioning the possibility of dehydration. I'm going to get busy sipping now.

use skin moisturizers faithfully, and have started drinking more water, so maybe next, I should turn off the news for a while.

She didn't want the sugar in Gatorade, so she would get 2 liters of water, and add a 1/4 tsp baking soda, and 1/4 tsp salt. She said it really helped her. Sometimes you don't need plain water but the electrolytes

I have restless legs. My dr. prescribed Pramipexole last year, and it has eliminated the RLS almost 100%. I also noticed that I no longer have a thrumming sensation through my whole body, waking or sleeping. I didn't really notice it, until it was gone. It was like the thrum inside of the old wooden electric poles.

Feel better.

I'm glad your friend was helped by adding some to her water.

I used to have RLS too, which as a young adult who'd never heard of RLS, I called "dancy feet." It let up when I got old, or maybe I just don't pay attention to it anymore. As for the thrumming you described, I never had that, thank goodness! Glad you don't have it anymore. I'll keep Pramipexole in mind in case RLS ever bothers me again. Thanks for the tip.
