I know they're expensive. What about PAIN, done all at once?, how many?

(5,670 posts)Some of my family got a bunch done at once in Costa Rica, and my London resident daughter goes to Budapest. I had one done in California. Very expensive!

(26,109 posts)Cost $4,000. Didnt hurt too bad. Followed protocol and it healed well.
I decided on an implant after hygienist told me that getting a bridge usually results in the loss of all 3 teeth involved.

(5,075 posts)Bridges destroy teeth. Implants are far preferable.

(26,109 posts)Hard to know sometimes what route to take when it comes to teeth versus cost.

(5,075 posts)All dentistry is a compromise. No solution Is ideal and many are expensive.
It so important to work with a dental team that communicates well and that
you trust. You are fortunate to.have a good hygienist.

(70,686 posts)Gave me advice about when to go, like I was going to spend $10K on it
I was in the chair one time when healthcare as a topic came up. Dentist didnt provide it for his full time staff, but he just had to brag about his getaway cabin. You could just see the steam coming out of hygienists ears.

(8,028 posts)about 10 years ago. It was a long appointment, as I recall, but nothing I couldnt handle. Had a friend drive me home. I think the extraction was a separate appointment. Anyway, it still works great and glad I had it done.

(153,160 posts)I've always had trouble with my teeth
implants are pricey but worth it, no real pain but a lot of waiting (for the extraction to heal, bone graft to heal, currently awaiting a "sinus lift" ........I've had no problems with my implants

(70,686 posts)Just be sure to get yourself a good dentist, and make sure they follow strict Covid procedures, because it is several appointments.

(804 posts)I had this done beginning in 1999 and completed in 2000, so they have lasted over 20 years. I had 6 implants placed and an appliance over them that is something like a permanent denture made of porcelain. It was one of the first of its type done here in NM. I couldn't be happier. As others have indicated, it took many appointments, but I do not recall that it was especially painful. They are permanent and I can eat anything. I have taken very good care of my remaining lower teeth and gums too. The loss of my natural upper teeth was due to a juvenile genetic condition. I also had to have a sinus lift and a bone graft, but it was so well worth it. It was expensive. As I recall, it was about $16,000 at that time. However, since that time, there have been so many studies that correlate oral and physical health. There are many more options now too, as far as how many implants are needed and type, etc. Best of luck if you decide to go this route. I do not think you will regret it. Many dental insurance plans include coverage for implants now too.

(5,260 posts)Not much pain. The extraction is another story. The big trouble is the crown kept coming off. And it cost $150 each time to glue it back on. The only thing I chewed on that side was mush. So after the crown came off the last time, I just left it off.

(70,686 posts)be where the open places are, no? Did you have extraction and then an implant replacement there?
