Nip this in the bud. Fast!
First comment:
Woooo good luck to their neighbors.

(6,197 posts)Technically they own the mailboxes.
My guess is it won't take long for these folks to become as dissatisfied with their new neighborhood as they were with their last.

(9,957 posts)I would suggest the USPS will put a quick stop to this. I would be interested to know if this person retired from a political position in the GOP?

(28,403 posts)I mean, as far as the P.O. is concerned, it probably is, as the Postmaster in town was informed about it before the neighbors. It's the monetary ask that's shady AF. Where did these people come from, where they make decisions for neighbors without consulting neighbors on shared space and upkeep costs? At least HOA meetings are open to all community members who can vote aye or nay. This is just obnoxious toxicity and ignorance. They should know better at their age!

(86,039 posts)At least they have announced their arrival in your vicinity and be wary of them. In my area, people don't seem to want to have much to do with neighbors unless they live in a remote and extreme location. That's when neighbors take care of each other, that I have seen, when they are hours from a medical facility and other amenities.

(13,872 posts)the Postmaster and go over all the issues raised in the comments to your post. Then, if I could afford it, I might make the payment and include a note asking these folks to notify you before spending money on your behalf. I might also take a little walk to their house and introduce myself.
Finally, maybe you guys and your neighbors should think about setting up a little neighborhood organization (nothing fancy) to deal with these things in the future.

(6,197 posts)That would be setting a precedent for these new people.
If people don't pay, they can always return the pod.

One should hope to discourage presumptuous, obnoxious neighbors under all circumstances.

(146,190 posts)should be before one person decides to change the mailbox situation. I foresee some issues developing out of this nonsense.
Our townhome development has an HOA. We have those mailbox clusters and they were here when we moved in. We also pay a monthly fee to the HOA. It's a reasonable one, and the HOA management doesn't bother people here much. In exchange, we get trash service, lawn maintenance, snow removal, etc. There was an assessment for new siding for all of the buildings a couple of years ago, but that is paid already and they're doing our new siding this year. All in the purchase agreement.
Another benefit is that the HOA fee also includes the insurance on the buildings. We pay much less for our insurance now, and that almost offsets the HOA monthly fee.
I don't mind the HOA, and won't be thinking about running for its board unless it gets all ugly or something.

(36,743 posts)Update from OP. The postmaster had only been asked about them putting up a new mailbox. A full suite of evidence is being sent to the postmaster here, and it all sounds highly illegal according to my family member.
