(3,603 posts)45 Years of working.
The last 15: Up at 3 a.m., out the door at 4 a.m., arrive at work at 6 a.m., leave at 4 p.m. (9 hour shift), get back home at 6 p.m. That is 14 hours of my day dedicated to working. I did that for the last 15 years. And now, when I was forced into early retirement, and I'm feeling lazy, I say: I Deserve It!!!
But dang, I really need to vacuum.

(28,813 posts)Where we live, retirees get up at 5:30 and are always shocked we sleep to at least 8:30. Just was talking about it at Spanish class this am.....It starts at 8:30...😴

(3,603 posts)I still wake up at 3 am. Even after a year. I can get back to sleep most times, but I have to put the TV on (so I don't start thinking - and I have tinnitus, so without some background noise the ringing is really bad in the morning).
Sleeping in until 6 has been the best I can do. Naps are nice too.

(10,156 posts)I felt a little guilty for awhile after I took an early retirement, but nowadays I am just grateful to put an end to that chapter of my life. I think its somewhat an American phenomena, we put too much of our self worth into a job. Its really nice to have the freedom to sleep in if I want. Took me about a year to just relax and accept it. Ive known too many people who ended up dying soon after they retired. I just feel like Ive done my part and have earned it.
