My eight-year-old grandson is autistic and mostly nonverbal. Hes taking an interest in games that are more sophisticated than pre-school iPad games, but has been frustrated by complicated controllers and by needing to know words. Im looking for games that are interesting for a somewhat older child that are simple to play and require little to no language skill. iPad or any major game system.

Its basically Farmville.
An additional game to go along with new farmville would be a good balance. At higher levels, the waiting is longer
Also, the advertising may be a complicated user interface. and occasionally the ads dont start or close properly

My daughter played hers from age 8 to her teens, loved it
Flashing lights, gizmo sounds when scoring etc
as I recall
I would have to take it from her late at night when she was playing it in the dark under her covers
I could hear it beeping

(14,118 posts)Mario Brothers games. Even though they've always been verbal these games might be
a fit for your grandson.

(34,120 posts)It's based around learning about birds and their habitat. He and some friends are playing the board game version, but there is an online version available. The guys that are playing it together have been playing D&D and other board, strategy type games for almost forty years, so the game play must be good.
It's also a visually beautiful game. I like that it teaches something as you play. When I bought it for my husband, I intended him to take it to family holidays and play with our great nephews, but his buddies have really gotten into it - I'm talking guys in their 60s and 70s. The game is extremely popular world wide, too.
The online version is here:
