A Tale of Friendship

I have a friend. We go back to sharing the same classroom with the same teacher in first grade. We didn't hang out at lunch or the playground, but we knew of each other's existence without issue up to high school graduation. Curiously, we never shared another teacher or class again.

Fast Forward. Being in the same town decades after graduation, we bumped into each other at a couple of public events. And found more than commonalities. A true friendship was born.

And that friendship carried on to . . . . yup, Facebook. Where his posts indicated a true fidelity to a man I truly despise: Donald J. Trump. And I went on posting 20 times to his entries anything and everything I could (and can) find to damn the TFG. My friend also is a devoted Federalist.

You're wondering why haven't we disconnected, "unfriended" each other. Because our friendship is too important to set aside. We don't let our positions destroy our bond.

Yesterday was my 65th birthday, and boy, did he gush! More than all the others put together. He didn't have to do that. He wanted to.

This is a new phenomenon in my life, to keep a precious relationship despite our mutual passions.
