i had bought it from my then bf, aka hubs #1. dont remember what year, but that was 74, i only paid him a few hundred bucks.
it was in good shape, and he was pissed at hell that 'i' wrecked it. but it was the classic corvair accident.

days and loved the oversteer when you could feel it. Turning left or right was significantly different if you had a passenger.

Around here, I knew a few motorheads who installed sway bars on their Covairs and had no problems. I always figgered James Dean just didn't respect the steering on his Porsche.

but, DAYUM! - you nailed it - James Dean was no different than other Americans - didn't know how to handle the different handling characteristics.

He was hit by another car almost head on as that car turned onto the highway and crossed the center line.

Thanks for the information. No amount of "handling skills" can change that!

in the video. They would over-steer and the rear axle would buckle under. I think what saved me is the road was wet
and I went off into someone's yard in the wet grass. If I had been on dry pavement, I am sure it would have rolled over. I thought the main concern was if you had a head on collision. I saw a Corvair that hit head on into a 1956 Buick, in the crash the Corvair was crushed
literally to 1/2 its length. The bumper on the 1956 Buick had minor damage. The accident was in town in a 35 MPH zone two elderly
women in the Corvair were killed.

about how the cars back then were built like tanks. Nothing could be further from the truth they were unsafe plus
the claim they were made out of real metal doesn't fly since cars from that era were a pile of rust in 3 or 4 years. I had a 1977 Chevy Blazer that rusted clear thru in 18 months.
