Anyone here from Hawaii ?

I recently watched a ‘Hawaii 5 - 0' TV series marathon on an over-the-air TV channel.
It was the newer version, and not the one from decades ago.

Anyway, on the TV show, when the cops burst into a place, or chase someone down, they yell out “5 - 0 ! 5 - 0 !”
“5 - 0", Google tells me, is slang for ‘cops’.

Do the cops in Hawaii actually go around yelling “5 - 0 … 5 - 0” ?

Here in Albuquerque they yell (from what I’ve seen on local news) “Albuquerque police !”
or “A.P.D. !”.

From 1977 to 1983 there was a TV show called ‘CHiPs’, about the California Highway Patrol.
I lived in California at the time, and never heard the California Highway Patrol called CHiPs’ by anyone or on the news.

They were always called the CHP (without the 'i' in CHiPs) , or referred to as the California Highway Patrol.

I guess “5 - 0 ... 5 - 0” and “CHiPs” are just the creation of Hollywood.

But she forgot to do anything that would have warranted a police raid on her dorm, which was pretty far out in the boonies, anyway, to the extent that you CAN be "out in the boonies" in such a place as Hawai'i. So she never got the honor of finding out what the local constabulary shouts when they bust down your door.

Come to think of it, we're all heading back there in a week, so if we do anything so horribly wrong as to warrant having our hotel room door broken down, I will make it a point to remember what they shout while crashing in, and get back to you.

I do know that Hollywood will take almost anything real and transform it into something ridiculous if they think it will sell. A friend of mine was once a radio announcer while he was in the army in Vietnam. This is over 50 years ago. The equipment they had was so primitive, he had to take half a minute to do all his own settings while starting his show live at the same time. He wrote about his time there, and the story was made into a major film starring Robin Williams. But Robin Williams didn't play my friend, except for using his name--his name was Adrian. Other than that, he played Robin Williams. Adrian used to open his show by drawing out his greeting to last long enough for him to set the knobs and dials. He would start out saying "Goooooooooooooooooooooood morning, Vietnam," in an otherwise perfectly normal voice. In the film, Williams shouted "GOOOOOOOOOOD Morning Viet-NAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!" Adrian was as surprised as anyone to hear what his show opening had become in the film version. He's gone now, but Adrian was a smart, soft-spoken intellectual who would tell anyone willing to listen that if he had done a third of things his character did in the film, he would have spent the rest of his military career in Leavenworth.
