In 1991 a young man called Vladimir was the servant for a Danish mayor visiting Russia:

- Vladimir was a quiet and very helpful man. He carried my bags, made sure I got the best seats in the theaters and that sort of thing. We did not talk much together, because he was best at German, and I am not very good at languages, says the Danish mayor Thorkild Simonsen. He was mayor of the town Aarhus, which had Skt. Petersburg as a twin citiy - a friendly arrangement which stopped in March 2022.
