I had my taxes prepared about 3 weeks ago at HR Block. I chose to have what I owe taken directly out of my account. It still has not come out for state or federal taxes.
I called my preparer last week, and she said not to worry, since the IRS is behind.
Am I in trouble if it's not paid my the 15th this month?
Anyone have anything similar happening? I'm calling again tomorrow.

(131,018 posts)old enough to say with some certainty that neither you nor anyone is 'n trouble if it's not paid m(b)y the 15th this month.'
I pull my hair out when I'm stressed, and this is stressing me

(9,998 posts)This year the Due Date is actually Monday April 18.
I'm a CPA, and while I know for a fact the IRS is behind, it does seem unusual that if the Return was E-Filed, they would wait to take the Balance Due out. It is possible H&R Block set it up so that the payment would come out on the 4/18 due date.
If the payment is not made by 4/18, you would likely have some Penalties, which would be based on the amount owed. If in addition to the payment not being made, the Return is also not E-Filed, then the Penalties would be much more severe, as then both the payment and the Return would be late.

No reason to give them the money sooner.

(9,188 posts)We e-filed in early March, and I really didnt think about when the card would be charged; we didnt owe much at all. Ill have to check the AMEX bill.
We still havent gotten our refund from the state. For the last three days they have been preparing to pay our refund. How much preparation is necessary to make a direct deposit?

(17,569 posts)(assuming of course that Block processed it, and if they didn't, then they are responsible) Don't worry, if I am on your tax evasion jury, I will suggest that you get less than ten years at hard labor.
Our 2019 taxes, filed in '20 took the IRS about 10 months to process. We owed some piddling sum, but since they hadn't processed the return, It kept us from getting one of the Covid stimulus check on time, which we later got as a tax refund.

Edited to add: You can pay later than the 15th, but they add penalty and interest $$.

Taxpayers have a little extra time this year: The deadline to file your federal income tax return and make any payments owed is Monday, April 18, 2022.
The deadline is typically April 15. But that day lands on Emancipation Day this year, a holiday recognized by Washington D.C., so the tax filing deadline is pushed to the next business day. Residents of Maine or Massachusetts have until April 19 to file their returns due to the Patriots' Day holiday in those states.
he IRS is extending the federal tax return deadline to May 16 for people affected by tornadoes in Tennessee, Illinois and Kentucky; as well as for people affected by wildfires in Colorado. You can find a full list of affected counties and details about eligibility on the tax relief in disaster situations page of the IRSs website.
I've also heard plenty of stories about how the IRS is very prompt in processing payments to them, while taking a long long time to process a return.
