*2PM Mountain Daylight Savings Time in the U.S.
More volcano programming follows this.
As a rule I avoid fright and horror programs but this kind of thing terrifies me. I've
studied the historical eruptions like Krakatoa, Santorini, Yellowstone and others. I
paid attention when Mt. St. Helens blew and keep up with activity here in the present
day. And there's not anything any of us can do to control it.

(14,118 posts)is a good thing in that it makes us think and act and develop strategies to deal with
other events. Maybe?

(34,111 posts)I do love seeing Yellowstone at any time but those shows are terrifying. Still, I watch them. I am just far enough in Eastern Kansas that they say we will get some dust but not too much but....enjoy the show.

(29,205 posts)1. Gamma Ray Burst
2. large asteroid or comet hitting the planet
3. periodic pole reversal - may not kill us but will be very strange
4. loss of the ionosphere (see #3)
5. pandemic of such virulence that we cannot stop it or develop vaccines and such lethality it kills us all
6. Super volcano - ok might not kill us all... depends on the length of the mini ice age that follows
7. Super Tsunami - again, might not kill all of us, but the vast majority of people live near an ocean
8. Large (as in very large) solar flare aimed straight at us - again, might not kill everyone... but it won't be a nice day
Just a partial list of planet killing (or human killing) events that we KNOW can happen... and many HAVE happened. Fortunately, the odds are in our favor... and that of our children for many generations, BUT some generation will likely face one of these events in the future.

(14,118 posts)[The Tunguska event (occasionally also called the Tunguska incident) was a ~12 megaton explosion that occurred near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Yeniseysk Governorate (now Krasnoyarsk Krai), Russia, on the morning of June 30, 1908.]
It's impossible for me to imagine just what Pooty wants to do or will do.
