(3,396 posts)It would typically include some small sandwiches of that variety. They can be quite tasty.

(61,678 posts)And I don't see tomato sandwiches on here, either. Freshly picked sliced tomatoes, mayo, celery salt on white bread. Mmmmmm.....

(63,221 posts)But among my top favorites would be the Caprese sandwich (which is listed) and the grilled cheese (with tomato) - they listed the grilled cheese, but no tomato.
I also love lobster rolls w/ very little mayo (only trust them in New England) and a good BLT w/ freshly picked tomatoes, crunchy iceberg lettuce and crispy bacon w/ mayo.

(86,691 posts)Though my recipe is a bit different.
I have sliced tomato, garden fresh thank you, on toast with butter on one piece of toast and mayo on the other, nothing else needed.
I have one every day when I have a tomato garden.

(8,336 posts)They just opened a couple of Capriottis in DC in time for the Biden Presidency. One in Georgetown closed but the one in Arlington makes a great steak-n-cheese and a great Bobbie.
There are some amazing choices on the list along with the above two, I also love a good Italian and a good Cuban. The Cuban with a cup of black bean soup was my winter go to. Makes great dip, so does a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato with a cup of tomato soup.
God I also love a BLT with thick sliced bacon and a PBJ, although, as a kid I loved PB and Fluff with a cold glass of Chocolate Milk made with Bosco Syrup. A Club on wheat
amazing also.
Walleye
(31,032 posts)To New Castle County years ago. The main Capriottis was about a mile from my office when I was working. It was a staple diet around our shop. I also love a Cuban sandwich. I managed to develop a lot of different tastes for a lot of different nationalities of food when I lived on ninth Avenue and 48th St. in Manhattan in the 80s. I was born and raised in Delaware though also lived in LA in the 70s so You might say I have sort of an eclectic palate

(3,396 posts)Those are probably the two most popular sandwiches. Ive heard some people claim that theyre not sandwiches, but that seems silly to me. Two slices of bread with something between is a sandwich.
So neither of those, but they include bologna? Thats a little weird.

(3,622 posts)But tomato sandwiches are good too. I likd to add a little salt, onions, a sliver of swiss cheese and a splash of lemon juice.
Delicious

(40,216 posts)I do love a well made BLT. Lox and cream cheese on a bagel is always a favorite.
But I will say that a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich with watercress is very delicious. I first ate one of these in London.

#3 is second, without slaw, on the sandwich, but as a side, along with french fries.

(24,023 posts)...in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade (I'm now 70 so we're talking a long time ago), my mom was one of the few working mothers in our neighborhood. Mornings could be hectic, so my mom aimed for efficiency.
Every Sunday evening, we would make a week's worth of assorted sandwiches and put them in the freezer. On school mornings, she'd put one in our lunch boxes/bags, and it would thaw by lunch time.
Good idea in theory, but terrible in real life. Frozen egg salad on white bread thaws into a disgusting, soggy mess that, to this day, I cannot abide -
Deviled eggs however, are just fine.

(4,267 posts)Having said that, being half Japanese, I've had more than my share of tonkatsu. It's normally serve sliced with cabbage and rice, but I've also had it as a sandwich. They make ramen with it, as well. Either way, it's darn good stuff.

(14,923 posts)I make a Grilled Cheese this way -
Preferably a good Artisan White Bread, or Pumpernickel, a bit of mayo, either Extra Sharp Cheddar, or Swiss Cheese, 2 - 3:thin slices of (Heirloom) Tomatoes, a dash of garlic powder.

(12,434 posts)1. Bacon, Egg & Cheese -- Yes, but must be on a tosted poppyseed bagel or buttery croissant.
2. Grilled Cheese -- Awesome but awesomer with a slice of tomato.
3. Pulled Pork -- Ruined by BBQ sauce and coleslaw. I like mine with just Dijon mustard.
4. Banh Mi -- Yuck! Cilantro, yuck!
5. BLT -- Alright but needs turkey.
6. Italian Sub -- I could eat one if really hungry and/or drunk.
7. Thanksgiving -- Lovely, especially on a cold, rainy day.
8. Lobster Roll -- Yuck! (Seafood allergy)
9. Turkey Club -- Perfect thing for when you're not very hungry but won't be eating for a while.
10. Tuna melt -- Not bad before I had a seafood allergy. I had a tofu version of this in a restaurant in York, ME, about 30 years ago that I still remember as the best sandwich I've ever eaten.
11. Fried Chicken -- Okay. Just okay.
12. Cheesesteak -- Wonderful, even though I don't like the onions.
13. Cubano -- I like these as paninis.
14. Meatball Sub -- Wonderful but heavy, and depends on how good the meatballs and marinara are.
15. Croque Monsieur -- Never had; would probably like.
16. Croque Madame -- Never had; would probably like.
17. Reuben -- Such a wonderful blend of flavors and made entirely of different ways to preserve food.
18. Gyro -- Hold the onions and more tzatziki, please.
19. Po'boy -- Yuck! An abomination I wouldn't eat even before my seafood allergy came on.
20. Caprese -- Lovely. I feel so light and free after eating one.
21. Patty Melt -- Okay.
22. Egg Salad -- This is the only sandwich they serve in Heaven. Crazy good if you add sprouts.
23. French Dip -- A wonderful sandwich with a better name: roast beef au jus.
24. PB&J -- When life gets me down, this lifts me up. Best eaten after being kept in a brown bag in school locker all morning.
25. Torta -- Never had except as a burrito.
26. Roast Beef -- Hold the BBQ sauce and horseradish but great with Dijon mustard.
27. Jambon Beurre -- Never had but I am already salivating.
28. Tonkatsu -- I have no idea whether I would like this.
29. Monte Cristo -- Nice but a bit much.
30. Ham & Cheese -- The supermarket standby. My usual road-trip sandwich.
31. Bagel with Lox -- Just give me the bagel.
32. Falafel Pita -- Never had but I like all the ingredients except the onion.
33. Chicken Salad -- I know people who always order these but to me it's a sandwich made with garbage.
34. Veggie & Hummus -- Never had; would probably like. I love each of the ingredients.
35. Bologna -- Should have a slice of American cheese. I once made one with peanut butter because I like PB&J and I learned that sandwiches are like your friends as some of them won't get along even though you like them individually.
36. Bocadillo -- Never had; would probably like.
37. Kentuck Hot Brown -- Never had; would probably like.
38. Bocadillo -- Never had; would probably, no, definitely like. I like the idea of this sandwich.
39. Liverwurst -- This is the only sandwich they serve in Hell.
40. Cucumber Tea -- Surprisingly yummy.
